Here she is, Miss World’s Ugliest Dog, 2018! Yes, Zsa Zsa, a 9 year old English Bulldog has won this year’s World’s Ugliest Dog contest, earning her owner, Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, $1,500 prize money in the process. Zsa Zsa won her title Saturday night at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California.
The contest is in its 30th year, and this year’s entrants included a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund, a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin, and a Pekingese named Wild Thang. Everyone knew it was going to be a challenge to meet the standards set by last year’s winner, a 125 pound Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha, who won with a droopy face and a lot of gas. But Zsa Zsa pulled it off with an extreme underbite, broadly rounded front legs, and a long, long lolling tongue.
The contest is silly and fun, but red carpet and puppy manicures aside; it gives the public an opportunity to see all dogs, no matter their looks, deserve a good and loving home. It proves once again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
